Today's The BIG Day! (Plus, a Contest!)
Tuesday, June 1, 2010 So......in case I've failed to mention this, I have a new book out. Ahem. TODAY. And I would be most indebted - in fact, as indebted as a human being can possibly be - if you would take a second out of your day or week to pick up a copy. The first few weeks of a books release are critical to its overall health, so please, pretty please, pretty pretty please, won't you spend what amounts to three grande lattes for hours upon hours of enjoyment?
Don't just take my word for it, Redbook, Cosmo, and Glamour.com have named it (or are naming it within the month) a hot summer read, as are a slew of big newspapers which I don't want to name out of fear of jinxing myself and thus not have them run it, but needless to say, they've told us that they will be. :)
Also, I'll be reading/signing TONIGHT at BORDERS TIME WARNER CENTER IN NYC at 7pm - please come!

How it works
Order (or purchase at a store) The One That I Want between June 1st and June 4th, email your receipt (scanned is fine if you do it at a store) to allisonwscotch@gmail.com with the subject line: The One That I Want and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win the below fabulous prizes. Winners will be picked at random and announced on my blog on Monday, June 6th. In addition to these cool prizes, I’m giving away bookplates to everyone who enters. So, be sure to include your mailing address and how you’d like your bookplate signed in your email!

What an exciting, wonderful, emotional day this must be for you! I have every confidence that this latest "work of heart" will be a fantastic success, and I can't wait to get my copy later today (if only the bookstores around here would open early enough for me to get the book in time to read on my Philly - NYC train ride!). I already know I'm going to love it.

I have already devoured this book, and picked up a copy for a friend of mine who adores your work as well. Terrific book, I finished it in the three hours it took for my doctor to let me out of his waiting room! Can't wait for your fourth!
Just so you know, this contest falls under the same laws as those for the query contest you posted Wed. May 26. You can find more information there, i.e. it's illegal to run a contest that requires purchase to enter.

I don't know you, so I'm not sure what you beef is, but have you never bought a Coke bottle in which you're then entered to win a prize? I once won $500 from Orbitz gum in this very manner. And I can name a half a dozen other writers out there who are running contests like this right now: entering to win free books, free gadgets, free signed copies with proof of purchase. Would you be more comfortable with the word "sweepstakes?" I sincerely don't get why you're coming on here and posting these things. Don't buy the book! Don't enter to win a Blackberry! I have devoted years to helping other writers, and this payback - in terms of a few sour grapes or however you would characterize it - is so discouraging,

@Michelle. Back away from the Wikipedia. For realz. Allison is not a company and therefore is not governed by the Federal Trade Commission and the same laws as, say Coca Cola. She doesn't *have* to have a No Purchase Necessary option.
