High Flyin'
Thursday, September 24, 2009 Okay, so by now, I'm sure that you're sick of my interviews, but they keep a-comin', so I'm going to keep a-postin' 'em. (That is waaaaay too many apostrophes for one post, no?) Anyhoo, today I'm over at Gadling.com talking with the wonderful Heather Poole about the inspiration behind the book and lots of other fun things, like where I like to travel, how I cope with my fear of flying, and what I like to pack in my carry-on.
Here's one reason why I love this interview - it really demonstrates how and why authors need to market themselves online. I actually "met" Heather at some point on Twitter. I can't remember how - I think she followed me, and I checked out her tweets a couple of times and found them interesting, and thus followed her back. She's a flight attendant - careerwise, we don't have that much in common - but via the power of Twitter, I learned that she has kids the same age as I do, that we share the same sense of humor, and that she's actually a damn good writer and has a huge following on her travel blog, Gossip Galley. Who knew? Not me. I thought I was just following her because I'm scared of flying and her tweets (in all seriousness) somehow reassure me about stepping onto a tin can with wings. So now, thanks to Twitter, not only have we become friendly, and not only did she pick up my book because of this, but it turns out that she's interviewing me for her blog.
It's connections like these (and yesterday's with Debra Schubert) that make online social networking invaluable. If you're not tweeting yet, what are you waiting for? :)
In the meantime, don't forget to head over to Gadling.com and check out my interview!

Hmm, that was the theme of the Writer Unboxed post today too! "Make friends, b/c you never know." :)
Here's how it all went down - how we "met".... I was following a NYC mom with kids so I could figure out some fun things to do with my own kid in the big city, when the two of you began tweeting back and forth - something really funny, can't remember what, but it made me laugh. I made a comment and you commented back. Because you cracked me up I followed you. Had no idea who you were, a big time novelist, but then when I saw that you had written a book, and because I love books, always need something to read on those long flights, I bought your book. Of course I LOVED your book, the best I've read in a long time, which is why I asked if I could interview you for my blog. Can't believe you agreed. I'm so glad you did. Twitter seriously is amazing. Thanks again for the interview and mentioning me here.
Twitter has changed my life. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true. I've met such wonderful people like you via Twitter. The writing community is beyond awesome, and the openness and generosity of writers and even agents to share their wit, experience, and insights is inspiring.
I was so happy to be able to interview you. (The interview is still up on my blog, btw.) FYI, my blog has had close to 400 hits in the last two days thanks to you. Hopefully, many of those folks will be buying your wonderful books. All the best to you, Allison!
FYI: I'm also afraid to fly. I do it, but I never like it. I can't wait to land safely and walk off that plane! Any suggestions Heather??
Some time before, I really needed to buy a good car for my business but I did not earn enough money and couldn't order something. Thank God my brother adviced to try to get the mortgage loans at trustworthy bank. So, I acted so and was satisfied with my consolidation loan.
