Big, Exciting News! Book #4

Hi guys,

So remember how a few weeks ago, I had an idea for my next book, and how that idea took hold, and I rushed to the computer to bang out the first few chapters and synopsis? Well, I am THRILLED to announce that this book has now been sold and will be out in June 2011. Wowza - a year and a half away. Ah well. I guess I still have to write it anyway.

Here are the great details of the deal, from Publishers Marketplace:

New York Times bestselling author Allison Winn Scotch’s The Memory of Us, about a woman who survives a plane crash, only to lose her memory in the process, and who now has to string together the pieces of her life via the stories told to her by those around her – examining their motives, discerning truths, exploring the possibility of her life’s second chances – all the while desperate to remember who she was, again to Sarah Knight at Shaye Areheart Books in a significant deal, for World rights, by Elisabeth Weed at Weed Literary.

A few other things, tomorrow, I'll be over at Writer Unboxed talking all about that lightbulb, that AHA moment that I, personally, think I need to write a book. Though, as I considered it, I don't actually NEED it, I just really, really, really prefer it.

Head on over and come share whether or not you need that lightning bolt too. (Check back on Thursday morning if you're clicking over before then - it ain't up 'til then.)

Don't forget: next week, I'm on vacation, but my agent will take some time to answer a few of your questions!

Fabulous news, congratulations! What a strong concept, and I love the prospect of layers of unreliability weaving through everything. Also love to see the different ways your brand of second chance/wish fulfillment takes on such new life in each book.

Thanks, you guys! I am so relieved to have this done before I head out of town for some much-needed downtime, and even more importantly, I am SO EXCITED to write this book! I'm diving in when I'm back...will keep you posted, of course, on the progess!

Brava! LOVE unreliable narrators and this character will have to sort through a whole maze of them, from the sounds of it. Great title, too!

You go, Allison. Dang. What an inspiration you are.

Now, that's a lightning bolt.

Enjoy your vacay!

What a terrific premise! Congrats, congrats, and can't wait to hear about your process on this one. May it be like your second book!

Congrats, Allison! Have you ever read Nie's blog? She survived a plane crash (albeit she remembers everything still), but it's incredible all the pictures she has of herself before. Anyway, immediately thought of her when I read your novel premise.

Awesome news! Congratulations! Cannot. Wait. To. Read.

The Memory of Us = The Way We Were. Congratulations, Allison. I feel for your protagonist, though, since others have their own perspective on who we are!

Congrats, Allison! Hope you enjoy your vacation next week.

Amazing concept!! Reminds me a bit of Citizen Kane-- at least in the sense that we're learning about the character through a bunch of subjective perspectives. How much more devastating when the character we need to learn about is ourself!

Wow... how does it feel to have sold *four* books? You're now very much no longer a debut author!

December 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMaya

Wow, huge congratulations, Allison!!! It's really fun to read this news today since "just this very morning" I started reading TIME OF YOUR LIFE. Love it so far!

Wow! Congratulations, well-deserved and good luck with the writing ahead :) Looking forward to seeing it in book stores.
