Tis the Season for Thankfulness

Well, I'm off to the in-laws for the big turkey feast, but wanted to take a moment to reflect here on the blog for the many reasons that I'm thankful to be able to do what I do. Sometimes I think I should keep a gratitude journal, a la Oprah, because it's easy to lose sight of how lucky I am, but I am just that: lucky.

So to that end, I'm thankful to all of you for joining me in this two-way conversation about our craft; I'm thankful that you ask questions that grab my interest and allow me (sometimes) to share what I know and other times, to ask for your opinions in return; I'm thankful that there are readers out there who have decided that they enjoy the stories that I put down on page; and I'm thankful for having the opportunity to share those stories in the first place.

There are so many things to be thankful for as an author - this is a rare experience that we have - to get paid to turn words into books - and this season, truly, I'm just very, very grateful for my career and all that it's done for me. Not in a material way, but in a more spiritual way, which sounds hokey, but it's not. It's allowed me time with my kids while still allowing me to go out and contribute to the world, to my bank account, to my self-esteem, to my creative side. It's given me freedom of ideas - the opportunity to take a glimmer of a fictional character and turn her into something resonant. And it's given me the chance to interact with hundreds, thousands, really, of people I'd never have met/emailed/tweeted with without it.

So this Thanksgiving, I really am thankful. I hope that you are too, in your own lives for whatever brings you happiness. Have a great holiday! Be safe. Enjoy your loved ones! Back with more next week.

Hey Allison...nothing hokey about being thankful for your many blessings! Finally someone who can express thankfulness w/o mentioning Material Items. Thanks for sharing!
I too am thankful for my life and having it filled with people who I can share laughter with!
